NH has had temperatures in the 50’s, up to 60 om several days through the entire month of March, 2010.
Like all agricultural products, maple syrup is governed by the weather. Ideal weather in sap-gathering season, which begins most years around Feb. 27, and ends around April 5, is daytime highs in the 40’s, and overnight lows in the 20’s, according to Peter Thomson, a commercial syrup producer, and president of the NH Maple Syrup Producers Association.
Temperatures in the 50’s and low 60s for weeks, so early in sap season, can be “very bad, especially if the trees bud early, How bad this year will be still is the "64-dollar question,"” Peter Thomson, a commercial producer and president of the NH Maple Syrup Producers Association, said.
