Indio International Tamale Festival

The city of Indio is a desert oasis that has earned the right to be called “the City of Festivals”. In April, Indio hosts the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival that draws in world-famous musical and visual artists, but in the Winter, Indio hosts the equally impressive Indio International Tamale Festival.

Recently featured on the Food Network as one of the top 10 All-American Food Festivals in the country, the Tamale Festival celebrates the heritage of the tamale and supports the community of Indio. Over 125,000 people gather at the festival to partake in a wide variety of tamales ranging from traditional fillings to even dessert tamales. Guests can also view native Mexican folk dances and enjoy the parade and carnival that sports four stages of live music and plenty of activities for kids. Admission to the Tamale Festival is free, making this a great opportunity to experience great food, community spirit, and local culture.
