For cruise ship passengers who do not wish to go on organised tours, here are a few suggestions on interesting things to do independently that are close to each Australian port of call.

Things to Do When in the Cruise Ports of Call in Australia

Sydney is Australia's biggest, busiest city. Cruise ships dock at Circular Quay at the foot of the CBD and shopping precincts. It is a short, flat walk to the end of the pier where there are harbour ferries, sightseeing buses, local city buses and trains.

  • Explore Darling Harbour with its world-class maritime museum.
  • Take a guided tour of the famous Opera House, a short, flat walk from the cruise ship terminal.
  • Wander round The Rocks area, the oldest part of Sydney, which is beside the cruise ship terminal. Boutique shops are housed in some of the city's most historic buildings.

Brisbane is the capital of Queensland, the Sunshine State. Cruise ships dock at Portside Wharf, about 5 kilometres from the centre of the city. Buses, taxis and river ferry boats go from the dock into the CBD.
